Clive Lewis For Norwich South
Education institutions and international students have an important place in our Norwich community.
There is a real risk that the Government’s response to the Migration Advisory Committee’s (MAC) review of the graduate route, published this week, could result in further reforms that could lead to a collapse in international student recruitment.
This could jeopardise higher education, which is a UK success story.
The MAC has acknowledged that further reforms could have serious consequences for universities across the UK, leading to “job losses, course closures and a reduction in research, and in the extreme it is not inconceivable that some institutions would fail.”
There could be severe consequences for jobs at institutions like the UEA, and for economic stability across the country.
I have written to the Government today to set out my concerns. The Government is expected to announce its response to this report imminently.
I will be monitoring this situation closing and representing the education institutions that play an important role in Norwich.
